Inauguration

Hi there, friends and family!  It seemed appropriate in this Presidential election year to begin this blog with a post entitled, ‘Inauguration.’  I’m hoping to keep you all caught up on everything through this site.  It’s easier than texting each of you individually to share pics of vacations, or show off my latest projects, or give you the details on whatever recipe success (or disaster – they happen equally) just occurred.

I chose ‘Auntie Lyz’ because through the years I’ve somehow stopped being Lyzzi or Lyz, and have become Auntie Lyz.  I even get Christmas cards addressed to Auntie Lyz – which I love.  Auntie Lyz has become a brand of sorts, inclusive of yet also separate from myself.  I love the familiarity of it, the family-focused implication.  I love that the costumes and dresses I create are each ‘an Auntie Lyz.’  I love that Auntie Lyz can be a thing, but I love most that Auntie Lyz is often screeched joyfully by the munchkins who are happy to see me.  I am Auntie Lyz.

I’ve spent years avoiding blogs.  Who could possibly be interested in the things I have to say?  I don’t read them and I certainly never had any intention of writing one.  But living so far from all of you has made me change my thinking.  I want to feel as though we are still connected and the magic of our times is that we can be.  It was time to stop being stubborn and embrace the new norm.  (I also felt stubborn about embracing Harry Potter and that turned out alright, so maybe this bodes well.)

I’m hoping to soon incorporate an interactive Supper Club section – more on that later, but the idea will be to bring our actual little Bangor Supper Club out into the world.  We who are a part of it get such enjoyment from our Club and while we’re rather snobby about keeping those evenings selective in person, sharing the fantastic recipes we find is something everyone can love.

There are big things coming up in 2016.  I have projects and vacations and elections and even some new recipes to share, and I hope you’ll all check in once in awhile to be a part of it.  In the meantime, please spread the word among all of our family and friends about this brand new project of mine!
